Applications and Deadlines

Primary AMCAS Application

The University of New Mexico School of Medicine (UNM SOM) uses the centralized American Medical College Application Service (AMCAS) that is supported by the Association of American Medical Colleges. The AMCAS application of those applicants who wish to apply to the UNM SOM will be electronically forwarded to our school.

AMCAS Application Fee: $160.00 for the first designated school and $38.00 for each additional school.

Deadline extensions will be granted only for problems that were incurred for reasons beyond your control. Please note that the AMCAS verification process can take anywhere from four to six weeks from the time that your application and all required official transcripts are received. Please review the AMCAS Instruction Manual for more information on the AMCAS application.

Applicants will be notified by email if they have been approved to complete the Secondary Application and a residency form.

Secondary Application

The UNM School of Medicine Secondary Application is granted upon invitation only. Once your primary AMCAS application is received by the Office of Admissions, the staff will prescreen your application for New Mexico Residency Status, minimum MCAT and GPA scores and all the required prerequisites. Applicants who meet all the minimum requirements will be notified through email by the Office of Admissions to complete the Secondary Application. Applicants will be allowed two weeks to complete the Secondary Application from the time they are initially invited.

Secondary Application Fee: $100.00 to be paid after applicants have been invited to complete the Secondary Application. The fee may be paid by a credit card through the online Secondary Application or by check or money. The check or money order should be payable to UNM School of Medicine and may be mailed or delivered to the Office of Admissions.

Applicants who are invited to complete the Secondary Application will be asked to submit a recent photo of themselves. Photos do not have to be of professional quality, but should consist of a simple head shot against a solid background with only the applicant in the frame.

Transfer Applicants

The University of New Mexico School of Medicine is not accepting transfers at this time.
