Wellness

Medical school is an exciting and rewarding part of your journey to becoming a physician.  You may, however, face challenges while you are in medical school.  You may struggle with exhaustion, time management, and finding work-life balance.  You may find yourself feeling disillusioned or questioning your personal values and abilities.

The medical literature, in fact, indicates that many medical students graduate from medical school feeling less well than when they entered.

The Office of Medical Student Wellness is committed to all UNM medical students graduating from medical school as healthy or healthier as when they started their training.  To this end, we have many resources available for you to access, some of which appear on this website and some of which are only an e-mail or phone call away. 

Medical students will have a chance to meet me with Liz Lawrence, MD, Director of Physician Wellness for the Office of Medical Student Affairs through various workshops on wellness, resiliency, and self-care in the curriculum.  If you would like to set up an individual meeting to talk about your own wellness or about how to create a more supportive learning environment, you can contact Dr. Lawrence at Elawrence@salud.unm.edu
