Dean, School of Medicine

Thanks for visiting the UNM Health Sciences Center School of Medicine. Since 1964, we have had a firm commitment to serve the communities within New Mexico and the surrounding region. This commitment is reflected in our academic and clinical programs.

We are proud of our educational achievements in the establishment of the Problem-Based Learning Methodology in medical education. We have instituted this throughout our four year undergraduate curriculum and are now introducing these concepts into our Graduate Medical Education programs.

Our research enterprise is vigorous and growing. We are developing centers of excellence in many areas, i.e., Epidemiology and Population-based Biomedical Research, Molecular Genetics and Oncology, Immunology & Infectious Diseases, Cell Biology, Cell Adhesion, Cell Motility, and Signal Transduction, & Neurosciences. Teams of our scientists are working to assure future success.

New Mexico is an extremely competitive health care delivery marketplace and has recently introduced Medicaid managed care. Our clinical practice is responding aggressively to these changes with strong support from the University Hospital.

We hope that the information you find within will be useful to your inquiry and we look forward to a more personal contact in the near future.
