The University of New Mexico School of Medicine welcomes visiting medical students to participate in final year elective clerkships. Clerkships for visiting students are coordinated by the Office of Medical Student Affairs.
The University of New Mexico School of Medicine requires all visiting students to meet the same standards expected of our own students.
Students from International Medical Schools may participate in our program. Regardless of citizenship, students are considered an International Student if their training, including the basic sciences, occurred at a school outside of the United States. This includes students from "Off Shore" and Caribbean Schools.
Please review the Visiting Student Course Catalog for information on courses (courses which accept International Visiting Students are marked accordingly). See the Visiting Student Guidelines for more information on requirements and how to apply.
The UNM School of Medicine will begin using the AAMC web-based GHLO (Global Health Learning Opportunities) application service for ALL International applications for the 2018-19 academic year. We have discontinued the use of paper applications. ALL International and off-shore MD students MUST submit their applications through the GHLO application portal. If you are unsure whether or not your institution participates in the GHLO program, please contact your home student affairs office. Please note: Per the UNM School of Medicine Visiting MD Student Guidelines (link above), students may NOT seek clerkship “pre-approval” from UNM Faculty or Hospital Staff. Students will not be granted exceptions to this new application process.
